Shaping Health Care Public Policy on a State and National Level
In this evolving climate of health care reform, Martin’s Point actively participates in the public policy-making process by helping to shape policies that impact the way care is delivered. To guide us in this work, we have created a set of Martin’s Point public policy principles, which include:
- Caring for the health of populations and of individuals
- Responsible stewardship of health care resources
- Transparency in quality and cost
- Payment practices that support and reward high value care.
“Martin’s Point has a long history of collaborating with Maine providers and employers to help improve quality and lower costs in our health care system. They are particularly well-suited to building an integrated primary care-based system for patients, employers, communities, and health care providers across Maine.”

As both a health care leader and a not-for-profit organization, Martin’s Point is dedicated to participating in and creating opportunities to share innovative solutions with others towards our common goal of creating a sustainable, quality health care delivery system.
Our work is driven by three principles: 1) to improve the experience of care 2) to improve health outcomes 3) to reduce overall costs. To achieve these goals, we are working to make systemic changes to the way primary care is delivered and coordinated.
Keeping our Finger on the Pulse of Change and Innovation
We believe that positive and lasting change to the health care system can only happen by collaborating and sharing ideas with others. We actively participate in national and international health care organizations to keep abreast of the most current and innovative developments. We also create opportunities to exchange ideas with other health care leaders, policy makers, and community partners.
Some of our most significant affiliations, partnerships, and efforts in this area include:
- Serving as one of the first 40 international prototyping organizations for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Triple Aim Initiative.
- Participating as a member of the national Alliance of Community Health Plans, comprised of 20 of the top performing community and regional non-profit health plans.
- Convening hundreds of health care leaders and professionals throughout Maine to participate in our Innovators Series forums, which bring nationally recognized health care experts to Maine to share and discuss ideas, cutting-edge practices, and health care trends.
