A Valued Community Partner

Recognized for Community Leadership and Partnership

In 2009, Dr. David Howes, Martin’s Point President and CEO, was honored as Spurwink’s Humanitarian of the Year. David was recognized for his leadership and work towards improving the health care system. This marked the first time this award was given to someone in the health care sector.

Dawn Stiles

“David was an exceptional choice for our 2009 Humanitarian of the Year Award. His passion to improve the health care system is both touching at a personal level and inspiring at a community level. I am certain Maine is becoming a healthier place to live because of his vision and leadership.”

As people caring for people, we care passionately for the well-being of the people we serve, each other, and our communities. We are committed to building strong communities through our direct work with patients, members, and beyond. To expand our reach, Martin’s Point invests our dollars and volunteer time to charitable organizations and causes that make an impact on the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

Charitable Giving

In 2010, we invested in our community by making financial donations to 90 health care and community non-profit and charitable organizations, including:

  • The American Heart Association
  • United Way
  • Southern Maine Agency on Aging
  • American Diabetes Association

Charity Care

In 2010, we provided nearly $200,000 of medical services free-of-charge to patients with insufficient coverage.

Community Outreach

To promote health and wellness in our community, we provide a range of prevention programs, support groups, and classes for free or for a nominal fee. Covered topics include:

  • smoking cessation
  • managing weight
  • living with food allergies
  • managing high blood pressure
  • managing diabetes.

Investing in the Difference Our Employees Can Make

We feel that supporting our employees in their ability to make a difference is one of the most powerful contributions that we can make to our community. Thus, we encourage and support our employees in their community involvement and volunteer service in a variety of ways:

  • Providing a volunteer time-off policy which makes it easier for our employees to do direct volunteer service and serve on community boards and committees.
  • Donating monetary support to charitable organizations and efforts in which our employees are engaged.
